Testimonials

Matt worked on my team this summer as a part of the Amazon Ads UX team, tackling one of our newest most ambiguous product spaces. I was super impressed with Matt's ability to ramp quickly on customer needs for this broad problem space, working across data sets from within Amazon and the industry. He brought professionalism and creativity as he lead a cross-functional workshop (participants from product, engineering, design and sales), and turned initial sparks into a strong product recommendation we'll carry forward in the next year. I know he'll be successful wherever he lands next thanks to his mix of tactical design skills + leadership mindset.

The Brief

"How can we bring shoppers more than a standard kiosk that will save them both time and money?"

The Solution + My Role at a Glance

Over the summer of 2022, I was based out of NYC interning for Amazon's Ads organization on their Emerging Media & Devices team.

My main focus was on a project with the physical stores team and I also helped build out Amazon Ads' design system in Figma.

For my main project - I worked closely with several key Amazon stakeholders with job titles randing from Sr. UX Manager, to Sr. Software Dev Manager, Sr. Business Managers, a Principle PM, the list goes on. Some of my research I conducted including running a 2 hour design sprint with these Senior participants, holding an industry audit of interactive, customer facing devices in shopping environments. Of course there was plenty of online research, but I also walked around NYC finding in-person examples.

When it came to designing, I primarily used Figma, but spent so much time hand sketching iterations and ideas on pen and paper first. I thought about everything from physical forms, physical placement within stores, a brand new UI system, and how to support advertisement and business needs amid all this. I also wrote a 3 page PRFAQ along side my PM, touching on every product detail, Shopper FAQs, Advertiser FAQs, Stakeholder FAQs, as well as an entitlement estimate of this opportunity and idea.

After 12 weeks, I then presented my process and deliverables to the Advertising UX organization, as well as the Director of Physical Stores.

I learned so much about incorporating the business world, physical world, and advertisement world all into my designs, I came out of the summer feeling like a brand new person. Even softer skills like becoming a better writer and presenter came from this experience.

Unfortunately I can't post many more details or designs online, however if you send me a message I'd love to chat about my experience and what we created!
